A natural beauty

Dakea were delighted to be involved in the construction of this beautiful rural house

When Steve Bleasdale first dreamt of building a house for his parents to move into in the grounds of his home in Preesall, Lancashire, he had a clear vision of how he wanted it to look. He also knew that he didn't want to compromise on any aspect of the build.

Steve worked with an architect to design and plan the stunning house. "I knew I wanted the building to not dominate the area but rather to sit in harmony with the surrounding nature," he told us. Natural Lancashire stone is a major feature of the design too, which is to be expected since Steve is Commercial Director at  L & W Wilson (Endmoor) Ltd, a construction and aggregates company. The home's design makes the most of his land's hilly terrain by constructing the house over three floors within the landscape, meaning it is surrounded by nature.

Steve's long-held dream was to build a roomy, light-filled modern home for his parents to move into, meaning they are near he and his family on a daily basis. The home needed to be easy to navigate but without compromising on any design aspects. The lower story is made up of a basement and drive-in double space garage and stairs lead to the first story which includes a generously-sized kitchen and living room with patio doors. The top floor is home to the bedrooms which afford stunning views across the Lancashire countryside.

With various lockdowns and shortages of many materials during the past year, the project took longer to complete than originally planned but with Steve himself using his expertise on the build and with one other builder, the home is now near completion and will be ready for Steve's parents to move into very soon.

Steve had previously worked with Dakea as part of his job so knew that when it came to price, quality and service that Dakea would be first choice when he came to choose roof windows. Talking with a Dakea representative, Sam Mason, together they chose the best Dakea windows for the project.

Three Dakea Ultima Energy KEV P6A B1800 roof windows were installed in the generously-sized first floor kitchen, ensuring the room is full of light throughout the day. Two more KEV roof windows were installed upstairs in the bedrooms. This roof window is perfect for pitched roofs and Steve chose them for their excellent insulation which will make the new home eco-friendly and warm. The triple pane glass means the sizeable rooms will have extra insulation, and although the additional noise block technology may not be vital in this rural setting, the heat reflective and sun-protecting coatings means this choice of windows will help improve the energy efficiency of the home and mean no overheating during summer months.

Steve also installed two other widows: one Better Save KAV for peace of mind. This model features a toughened external pane and laminated internal pane for an extra tough window with enhanced thermal efficiency which improves the energy consumption of the home. Plus he chose a more basic design from the Altaterra range of roof windows in an outhouse.

He also opted for six roof window blinds.
"I couldn't be happier with how the build worked out, including Dakea windows,' Steve says today as he looks forward to his parents' moving in to the beautiful new home.
