Dakea provides natural light solution for National Park properties

Brewery Meadow is a luxury development home to 23 two, three and four-bedroom homes in the heart of Devon. In a sought-after location, on the edge of Dartmoor, the development allows residents to experience rural life whilst providing all the amenities of a larger town.

Situated on the cusp of the National Park in Devon, it was crucial that local housebuilder, Grove Homes, allowed residents to experience the tranquil views surrounding the homes whilst reflecting the high specification its customers were accustomed to. Moreover, with access to natural light a key selling point for properties, it was crucial Grove Homes utilised every means possible to allow for natural light in the properties. So, it turned to Dakea - a provider of high-quality, affordable roof windows.

Grove Homes found the perfect solution in Dakea’s Better Safe PVC range. The four-bedroom Moorland House configuration benefits from three roof windows side by side whilst the Sidings House type has four single windows installed around each property. The specification of Dakea roof windows also allowed Grove Homes to design and build an additional seven rooms across the properties that they would have otherwise had to omit, increasing the sales value of the homes.

With energy efficiency of increasing importance to those purchasing properties, Dakea’s Better Safe PVC range features Dakea’s new Thermostat solution providing a superior energy conservation performance of 1.3 W/m2K. This, combined with two-pane windows and an improved U-value delivered from both the glass itself and the frame provides outstanding energy conservation performance. In turn this reduces the carbon footprint of the property whilst also potentially reducing energy bills for the homeowner. This makes it ideal for rooms where better thermal comfort is required such as living rooms and bedrooms.
For added comfort, Dakea Better Safe PVC also has a ventilation valve and a handle with two additional locking positions for flexible ventilation control allowing fresh air into a room without the requirement of a fully open window.
The Better Safe PVC range also has a high resistance to wet and dirt thanks to the EASY-CLEAN technology used in its manufacturing. This means it is much less exposed to mould and requires almost no maintenance throughout its lifetime, an important consideration for those purchasing the homes.
A further benefit of specifying Dakea’s Better Safe roof windows is the versatility of the product. The range can be installed in all roofing materials between a slope of 15 to 90 degrees making it the ideal product to specify on developments with roofs of varying pitches.

Grove Homes chose to specify Dakea products following consultation with local merchant, Civil Solutions Ltd. Grove Homes has been using Civils Solutions Ltd for seven years so when the merchant recommended Dakea thanks to its high-quality products and affordable price point, the housebuilder knew they wanted to work with the roof window manufacturer. Civils Solutions Ltd. provided full support to Grove Homes and assisted with product information, planning requirements and advice on flashings. The merchant also provided Grove Homes with the contact details for their local Dakea sales representative.

Dakea provided further additional support to Grove Homes ensuring the housebuilder had chosen the correct window specification to allow for maximum results from the windows. Dakea also conducted numerous site visits throughout the build stage including on-site installation advice and follow up visits.
Grove Homes also benefitted from PRO.App, a new app developed by Dakea to solve specific challenges that local contractors and installers face on a day-to-day basis. The Dakea PRO.app loyalty program provided installers from Grove Homes with added value during their working day thanks to the fact that they could easily register for a 20-year warranty on all the windows installed through the development quickly and efficiently.
Contractors from Grove Homes simply had to scan the QR code found on Dakea roof windows, significantly reducing the red tape and hassle usually associated with applying for a long-term guarantee.
In addition, by building up loyalty credits Grove Homes was able to exchange points to receive free gifts including a luxury hamper and amazon products.

Simon Quaintance, Director at Grove Homes said: “We couldn’t have asked for more from the products installed and the team at Dakea themselves. One call and the team were on-site providing us with endless amounts of support. Whilst being affordable, Dakea products have the quality of a much more expensive roof window and have allowed us to create seven additional rooms within our latest development.
“In fact, we were so impressed by the quality of the roof windows and the support provided that we have chosen to install Dakea products on our next project and have already put the order in!”

Paul Edwards, Area Sales Manager – South West England & South Wales at Dakea, added: “From start to finish the Brewery Meadow development has been an exercise in collaboration. Starting with initial discussions with Grove Homes (Devon) and Civil Solutions, the most suitable Dakea KPV PVCu windows were selected, ordered, delivered and installed with no issues. “Dakea and myself have provided assistance where needed to the developer and merchant to ensure the roof window supply and installation ran smoothly, and provide confidence with our support and 20 year Guarantee on our windows.”
